You guessed it! It's all in the name. This is The Shrimp Lover. If you were away from the Boiling Crab game, you might not know what The Shrimp Lover is, but it has its similarities. If you do know what Boiling Crab is, then, I would say it's worth a shot trying this place out. It's a Cajun/Creole,l Thai, Seafood restaurant. How about let's have the food speak for the restaurant, but before we begin. How do we get there? If you are familiar to the Redondo Beach area in California, it would be in the area on the right of the pier that seems like a village of white buildings. If not, Google it! Hahaha. There's multiple locations of The Shrimp Lover: Hollywood, Melrose, and here, Redondo Beach. My blog is based off of the Redondo Beach location. When you first pull up into the area, it seems kinda dead. Not gonna lie! Since Boiling Crab or other imitation restaurants are somewhat in the area, people are willing to go there, but i think it's worth a try sometimes! Once you locate the restaurant and finally walk inside, it gives off that shipwreck vibe with a beach feel to it. Right when we got in, we were automatically seated. Since not that many people know about it, there's plenty of seating there for a busy Saturday or maybe even a party. The workers were very welcoming and would assist us whenever we needed them. As for the menu, here is what they supply there (link): http://www.theshrimplovers.com/menu.html It's not just that Boiling Crab food, but they actually have other options. Don't feel like getting your fingers dirty, DONT WORRY ABOUT IT! They have Thai food dishes from rice to noodles. Allergic to seafood? NOT A PROBLEM! They even have dat BBQ! Haha. Since I wanted to compare BC and SL, I got 1 pound of shrimp (btw, its freakin $12/lb. pretty expensive bro), fried calamari, and cajun fries. 1 lb of shrimp: I got the medley which is Original (Louisiana), Garlic Butter, Lemon Pepper, and Indian Spice. Yes, I know. Indian SPICE! Too be honest...I thought it was really good! Haha. Since I've tried multiple imitations of BC (even my own recipe), I would say, I prefer this than BC. I think it's that Indian Spice that truely makes a difference and since I like Indian food, that's what made it so much better for me. Before I forget, it comes with a potato! :) Seasoned fries: Honestly, they are just like any other seasoned fries. Just like BC or wherever you get it. I think it's pretty standard. Fried Calamari: Okay. This was crazy. I don't know if it's because we are next to the ocean or whatever, but that damn, calamari was bomb! It's in the typical ring form, but for some odd reason, I never had it juicy before! Like the squid, itself was a nice texture, soft yet still firm enough. It didn't taste overcooked or under cooked. it was perfect! Hopefully, it will be just like that when you try it, but it's a MUST TRY! As for the other foods, I haven't tried them, myself. I think I would stop by though. If you wanna check out The Shrimp Lover, check out the info below:
